После пробного IELTS мне отправили не только комментарии, но и все мои ответы. Эссе было с двумя противоположными мнениями (Two sides /Discuss) — ещё один вид задания. Пример эссе о мнении по одному вопросу (Opinion) я уже давала, но прошло уже много времени с момента публикации. Я достаточно экспериментировала с письмом во всех своих экзаменах, которые сдала после своего первого CAE (2009), своего рода отправной точки в языке. Сданы компьютерный CAE /C1 Advanced от 2015 года, два CPE /C2 Proficiency, Cambridge Linguaskill и пробный IELTS.
Что значит «хорошо писать» на английском
Главное в письме для любого экзамена и в принципе — не изобилие сложных слов и грамматики, которые могут затмить смысл, а точное и чёткое отображение мысли через язык. Иногда он уже достаточно богат, а порой приходится методично следовать по уровням. Но на любом уровне сложности можно научиться писать ясно и понятно.
Нужно:
- видеть задание;
- не отвлекаться от темы;
- логично подавать идеи от общего к частному;
- давать подробности через точно выбранные слова и структуры.
Не нужно:
- использовать сложную грамматику, если она путает, а не ведёт по тексту; не инверсией и третьими условными едины;
- вставлять навороченные слова, лишь бы заменить простые; чаще всего они не подходят контексту;
- давать обобщённые примеры, без конкретизации («Важно заниматься спортом, потому что это полезно»); такие можно подставить в любой другой текст на похожую тему и ничего не поменяется для читателя.
Идеальным текст, где есть всё нужное и нет языковой путаницы с обобщениями, я нашла в замечательной книге ‘Michigan Proficiency Skills Builder’ (книгу можно скачать ради отличных слов) для экзамена ECPE на уровень С2, который не особо у нас популярен. Вот этот пример — один параграф о человеке с определёнными чертами характера.

Tony, the 17-year-old boy who lives next door to us, is the epitome of indolence. I say this because he’s one of the laziest, most unmotivated people I know. Whenever he’s not at school, you can count on him to do absolutely nothing but sleep, eat, stay glued to the TV, and create messes for others to clean up. I remember the time when his parents had to leave him alone for a week when they went to help out a sick relative. When they came home, they found dirty dishes all over the house and a week’s worth of garbage piled up. His room was so messy they could barely see the floor. Then there was the day that Tony’s mom came home from the hospital after a brief illness. His dad had asked him to buy some groceries and straighten up the house while he went to pick up his wife, but when the couple came home, they found Tony fast asleep in front of the TV, the shopping still not done, and the house looking like a cyclone had hit it. Needless to say, there is not much to admire about a person who is so totally indolent that he won’t even lend a hand when his family needs his help.
Моё эссе на 8 баллов по правилам «хорошо писать»
У эссе в IELTS тональность более официальная, но суть от этого не меняется. Принципы, что я написала выше, не изменились. Совсем не обязательно забрасывать читателя инверсией, нужны чёткие и конкретные мысли по теме. Тогда текст производит впечатление простого и понятного потока.
Вот примерная формулировка задания (43 — номер из поста c подобными заданиями) из моего пробного экзамена, общий модуль:
43. Some people think that it is better to educate boys and girls in separate schools. Others, however, believe that boys and girls benefit more from attending mixed schools.
Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge and experience.
Мой текст, за который поставили 8 баллов из 9-ти— Band 8, написан за 35 минут:
There’s an opinion that boys and girls benefit from attending separate schools. According to a different point of view, boys and girls need to be educated in mixed schools.
Separate schools seem to provide a better focus on particular subjects. Despite the fact that some people may disagree, boys tend to demonstrate higher levels of physical endurance and stamina. So they have a golden opportunity to invest more time in plumbing, constructing buildings or carving wood. Girls, in turn, demonstrate the inclination to sewing, playing the piano and hosting various household events. Being placed in mixed classes, they can be deprived of the chance to develop those skills to the fullest. In other words, both the gender groups acquire knowledge and skills to work with more dedication since they have been honing their innate skills.
Mixed schools help children to acquire social skills. Male and female patterns of behaviour may differ in particular situations. For instance, in the event of conflict, boys prefer to attack and provoke, while girls look for methods to settle the issue. If children could study together, they would learn how to interpret the conduct of a representative of the opposite gender. In separate schools, such an opportunity is not provided by default. Consequently, boys and girls would have to derive this information from families or other sources, which may compromise school as an institution. Education goes hand in hand with socialisation.
To conclude, I’m convinced that mixed schools could bring more benefits to both boys and girls. There they possess sufficient time to learn the intricacies of the other gender’s behaviour in addition to what they learn from their families and other social environments. Besides, certain subjects, such as Literature or Maths, are accessible to both genders. The curriculum may mainly focus on the subjects of this caliber to avoid the inequality instigated by nature. Deeper development of innate gender-related abilities can occur as an optional discipline within the realm of mixed schools.

Я сделала одну описку в идиоме ‘to the fullest’ (по полной, в полной мере) и написала ‘to the full’. Буду продолжать работать над точностью слов и их разнообразием. Всегда пригодится.
